Employee of the Week
“Mama” Isa
Breed: Isa Brown
Eggs: Large, medium brown
General: Mama was our very first laying hen on the farm. She earned the name “mama” because of the way that she would round up all of the other chickens into the coop at sunset. It became part of her nightly bedtime routine and she would not get up on the roost bar each night until she knew that the rest of the family was all up there too. She walks back and forth on the coop floor, pacing as she takes roll of who’s there. She’s a sweet girl that likes to follow us around the yard as we work and she is not shy when its time for treats, fermented grains or fresh greens.
Favorite treat: Sunflower seeds - she’s a clever girl and ravenously picks the sunflower seeds out of any treat blend before she will eat anything else.
Vocalness: Low to medium. She isn’t afraid to speak up when needed, but she’s not a big talker. She chats us up the most when she thinks its time for a treat.
Pet peeve: Tardiness - we do our best to not delay her rigid schedule expectations.
