The “micro” but mighty Urban farm Dream
It’s not easy being human. We are all just trying to get by, but some things we do by default are more harmful than we think. The way much of our food is produced today is not only bad for us- its bad for animals and the environment too. It doesn’t have to be that way though! We can come together and create better systems that protect people, animals and this beautiful blue planet we all live on.
I always believed that there was nothing more delicious than fresh food from the garden, but as I have learned more about the food system over the years, it became obvious to me that growing food for my household alone just isn’t good enough. I want to help change the way that people think about their food and where it comes from - and so here we are! After moving into a modest suburban home on about a quarter-acre lot in the fall of 2025 with my husbandI quickly went to work on getting a backyard flock of chickens established and converted the front lawn into a food-producing paradise. It’s only the beginning. We hope to increase production next year by adding more raised beds in the backyard and maximizing vertical growing potential.
We hope you come by the stand to see what’s growin’ and be sure to stay connected so you can join us in our quest to grow a more local and just food system right here in our back yard (and front yard.)
Best,
Mary Hurley
